People always want to compare someone's sexual preferance to racial comments. I think it's very absurd, you can hide who you want to have sex with not your skin color.
To Bob in Houston...Oh Honey you can call me 'Cuddles' anytime...lol! And yes the last time I checked I was a women...born that way...No sex changed needed Thank you very much.
The problem with celebrities is that they don't know when to keep their mouths shut. They should realize by now that everything they say might be publicizied, yet they keep at it. The same goes for polititians. Think what you want, but keep a muggle on and get smart!
Whoever thought it was realistic to have a head surgeon who was black, anyway? And an Asian woman marrying a black? LOL. We want children who know how to engineer automobiles, not hotwire and steal them.
He should have been fired. Regardless of anyone's belief system, it is never acceptable to shout demeaning slurs at your co-works in ANY kind of professional environment. It is totally unprofessional and if the same thing would've taken place in any other respectable workplace, the same thing would likely have happened.
Now all that needs to be done is for Radio One to fire that Racist Rabble Rouser Al (The Mouth) Sharpton.
isaiah should have been fired when this incident happend, but the network needed him to stay until the end of season 3 for storyline purposes. it's nobody else's fault but his for what happened to him. if a person is fired for making racist remarks, then a person should be fired for making homophobic remarks too.
Bye Bye... You won't be missed. In the end, you reap what you sow.
When will people learn to celebrate diversity and accept people for who they are?
good riddance.
free speech has nothing to do with this; his continued employment was contingent upon keeping up relations with his bosses and co-workers, and, as he is a public figure, the public. he did not do that--many of his co-workers expressed their anger over his comments and the public, rightly, was outraged.
to whoever commented that his view is held by 'the bulk of the world', what exactly are you saying? homosexuality is not accepted by many people, true, but civilized people learn by the time they're 5 that derogatory terms are wrong...and the word he used does not simply express his lack of acceptance but rather his un-checked hatred for a group that, like it or not, is here to stay. happy he's gone.
Initially I though this was a professional thing, but now I am so positive that gay people like Kumiko and Al, are probably the type of closet racist who made the guy blow up. Listen to these people, saying a black man can't be a head doctor, blacks are known for hotwiring and al sharpton is a racist because he speaks out about people like you. Make no mistake of it, you are both racist, and if you're gay, then the two of you are gay racists. And make no mistake, gay guys are also racist, and I am sure T.R Knight would be proud of the two of you
Al,
I'm not gay, but I'm sure a lot more comfortable around gay people than black people. If I see a bunch of gay guys or lesbians under a light pole on a city street at 2:00 AM while walking to my car, I'm one hell of a lot less scared than if I see a bunch of black men in the same situation. Can you tell me why? Even a rich black ex-athelete got away with murder in 1994 and you KNOW it's true, too, blood.
I do feel for Isiah because the producers did take a long time to decide his fate, action should have been taken swiftly if it was to be taken. Isiah was probably thinking his job was safe.
As far as the comment went however, language like that can be extremely offensive to people, and Isiah should have been aware of this when speakin in a doman that was most certainly going to become public. There was NO need for the comment, and all it did was undermine and insult his co-star. A complete celebration of homosexuality is not needed, but this sort of abraisivness is not needed
Kumiko,
I wonder what you do for a living, because if I was your boss, I would fire your racist ass. You are a stereotypical racist who is generalizing about black people. If I saw you on one side of the street at 2 am and a group of black men on the other side of the street I would feel safer with the black guys. You are what's wrong with America. The only difference between you and Isiah Washington is that you may still have a job.
I am so sick of people on here talking about that it is freedom of speech. you do not call a fellow person a faggot. it is wrong and his ass ahould have got fired a long time ago. there is a difference between freedom of speech and a homophobic comment. he is a gay basher by calling that poor guy a fag. thank god he is fired. so long you loser
Isaiah is supposed to be a homophobe. Yet, his children have play dates with melissa etheridge's kid. And does who dont know, melissa etheridge is gay. For me, if someone says something in anger, it shouldn't be something that defines a man. I was with a friend of mine and he got pissed off by his boss, and he used the N word in anger, in front of me, without even knowing he used it. Does that make him a racist or someone who spoke in anger. I've known him all my life and I know he is no racist.
Unlike Kumiko, who first believes that black men are incapable of being surgeons and when black people are in a group, they are a potential threat. He choses to ignore Philip Emeagwali, who was one of the fathers on the internet. Mark Dean , (scientist, computer processor, one of original IBM inventors)
James Edward Maceo West, (invented the foil-electret microphone) . Frankly, its pointless educating a racist.
What we have in life is selective choice of where to direct our rage. Take Anthony, who doesn't seem to have a problem with Kumiko's racist rampage, but he chooses to be so offended by Isaiah uttering the word fa**ot, in rage, to someone who wasn't gay.
A
F** is a hateful word, and cannot be justified EVER.
As was mentioned earlier, everyone believes in free speech unless they disagree...
If it had been a racial comment, he would have been fired immediately, such as was the case with Don Imus. Homosexuals are one of the last groups that can be joked about and actually can be 'punished' by death and certain 'god fearing folks' think it is just dandy. They pick and choose their morality from the Bible or whatever their written moral road map may be, while living the life they choose, want to dictate the life others should live. You can't have it both ways. It is a PAID JOB. If you are a PR nightmare, you are gone. Stop Whining!
Token Black Guy? Are you serious? Three of the most important characters in this show are black. The Chief of Medicine, Head Resident (female) and Isaiah Washingtons character Dr. Preston Burke who, in the show, is one of the top heart surgeons in the world. Black man in america... you need to know what you are talking about before you open your mouth. Oh, did I mention the show was created and written by a Black Woman? No? Didn't mention that yet huh, well it is. Get your crap straight dude. Mr. Washington was fired for being intollerant and hateful. His beliefs are what got him fired, not the color of his skin. And to explain it more, his words expressing his hatred and intollerance toward 'Faggots' are what got him fired. I just wonder how they are going to go on without him because in the season finale there was a bit of a cliff hanger between him and Sandra Oh.
Give me a break, had it been a bigoted comment about any other minority he would have been fired even faster. And to correct you all, it wasn't the first use of the word fag that got him fired, it was the second time he used it right in front of all his costars and all the supposed counseling that got him axed.
Regardless of whether or not the majority of the world agrees with Isiah's view on gays, the fair and un-prejudice minorty still fights the bigotry of the majority.
