Bill Maher's 'Real Time' with Sean Penn, Garry Shandling and Harold Ford
By Stone Martindale May 5, 2007, 20:37 GMT
Actor Sean Penn appeared alongside Garry Shandling and Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. (D) of Tennessee on "Real Time with Bill Maher."
Bill Maher directed the questions that elicited Penn to rail a bit against the Iraq war, adding that George Tenet, Vice President Cheney, Condoleezza Rice and President Bush himself "should be in f---ing jail" for their alleged lies to the public that led to thousands of American losing their lives in that war.
Said Penn: "And, I think it’s really quite the opposite. That when you have a precedent set like that, and you have somebody, George Tenet, acknowledging in his book, that he knew that the Administration was deceiving the American people into a situation that is murdering young men and women from this country and others, that George Tenet and Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice and George Bush et al should be in fucking jail."
About a half hour later he realized he had left someone off that list, saying he "forgot about Rumsfeld."
Garry Shandling was the true comic relief, citing that despite the fact he was a comic, "things bother me," and let off the steam of Penn's ire by joking several times about the actor's supposed vacation house "in Iran."
Piped in by satellite, presidential candidate Tommy Thompson stated, to Shandling and Maher's disbelief, that his mistake during this week's GOP presidential candidates debate, in which he said that employers should be able to fire gay employees if they find them offensive, happened because his hearing aid had slipped out.
