"American Idol" raised 70 Million and counting for various charities, and that is mitzvah and a half. President Bush and his first lady, Laura, thanked the viewers Tuesday for helping raise $70 million during last week’s charity special, Idol Gives Back.“We thank ‘American Idol’ viewers who have shown the good heart of America,” the president said in a taped appearance that aired during Tuesday’s show. “We thank all the celebrities who participated, including Bono, and all the contestants who sang their hearts out for these children.” He then turned to the first lady and asked: “Say Laura, you think I ought to sing something?”“I don’t know darling, they’ve already seen you dance,” she said. The monies raised will help poor children living in the United States and Africa. Jersey native Jon Bon Jovi totally infused the show with his sex appeal and raw talent. His appearance was one of the most popular of al the guest judges. Tonight, two contestants go home.Diva-licious Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks and LaKisha Jones are safe. Beatboxer and Blondie sole male contestant Blake Lewis is too.Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson are voted off.Bon Jovi comes out to perform "Make a Memory." Afterward, Jon praises the contestants' hard work.Taylor Hicks also made an appearance to ask for Idol Gives Back donations. Next week, it's "boogie sounds with Barry Gibb." All bets are off.
