'American Idol': Elvis still the King - VIDEO

It's too easy to goof on Elvis, so many pictures and film clips of him later in life too heavy and past his prime, pandering his awesome talent to the Vegas showroom crowds, but last night's American Idol showed him circa 1968, his prime as a man, and even though the man is dead, his performance through digital technology was heartstopping.

It is wonderful to see someone who had such an impact on American music and life resurrected in a tasteful duet with the Canadian chanteuse Celine Dion.  She may be a tad cheesy with her selections in music, but there is a power in her voice even the most snarky haters cannot deny.

I loved the performance, and it even made me cry at one point remembering where I was in 1968, and how powerful a talent Elvis used to be.  It was like seeing an old friend who passed, and you had forgotten how much they meant to you.
