"30 Rock", the struggling NBC comedy that critics loved but was slow to find its ratings displayed the writing and acting talents of Tina Fey as she satirized network television, has been given a second season renewal.
The other precipitous NBC show, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," offered up by talented "West Wing" showrunner Aaron Sorkin has a more uncertain future.
The major networks, NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox and the CW will soon unveil their fall 2007 schedules next month.
"30 Rock" renewal was an early surprise stars "Saturday Night Live" veteran Tina Fey as the head writer of a live TV variety show, and Alec Baldwin as her misogynistic boss. The show has won Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards for Baldwin and acclaim from critics.
Tracy Morgan, another "SNL" star, also stars in the series.
The show is up against ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and CBS's "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
