NewBay Media LLC, the publisher of Television Broadcast magazine, has made the announcement that Peter Caranicas has been named editor-in-chief of the publication.
Caranicas has a solid history in the broadcast and video industries. An established journalist, he was a member of the editorial team that launched Videography, a sister publication of Television Broadcast, in 1976. He served as editor for the magazine's first five years before going on to edit several other publications and to manage the ShowBiz Expo tradeshow. Caranicas rejoined the magazine in 2004 as senior contributing editor.
"Peter's experience—both with this company and in the broadcast/video field—makes him the perfect candidate for this position," states Vice President/Group Publishing Director Doug Krainman. "His appointment shows NewBay's commitment to the broadcasting industry and this unique title—the only publication dedicated to delivering technology information from a management perspective.
"Peter has covered all the landmark industry developments—from the birth of home video through the maturity of HDTV—and can use that knowledge to place today's technological advancements into the proper perspective for the Television Broadcast audience," adds Krainman.
"Broadcasting is currently undergoing revolutionary changes," states Caranicas, "and I am looking forward to being on the front line and covering these changes from Television Broadcast's unique position."
In addition to his editorial experience, Caranicas has written freelance articles for publications including The Hollywood Reporter, World Screen News, Ad Forum and the New York Times Encyclopedia of Television. Most recently, he served as editor of Below the Line, a newspaper that serves the information needs of the film crew community.
Caranicas will continue to contribute to Television Broadcast sister publications Videography and Digital Cinematography.
