One minor correction, Star Trek was originally broadcast on NBC not CBS.

1. Teri Hatcher never appeared in any Star Trek series or movie
2. Whoopi Goldberg was already a popular film actress when she appeareed in TNG; it did nothing for her career.
3. Star Trek originally aired on the NBC network; owned by G.E., the network liked the show in part because of the bright colors, which it was thought would help to sell color TV sets.

But I'm sure there is *something* in the article that is actually right.

Ronbo:
1) Terry Hatcher was the transporter room person in the story where the smuggler had the Romeo and Juliet thype lovers he was helping. (I seem to remember she got to have some good off duty time with the pilot as well).
2) Whoopie was always in standup or comedy roles prior to taking the serious role in space and showed her range of acting which led to some of her better movie parts.

Ha, ha, Ronbo. I love it when people come on these things all sarcastic and snide and then it comes to light that they are totally wrong. Hilarious. What a loser.

Actually, that was kinda harsh. Sorry, Ronbo. Just referring to this:

NBC wasn't owned by General Electric at the time 'Star Trek' debuted.

Whoopie had appeared in 'The Color Purple' before she did The Next Generation. So Ronbo was right, TNG was not a huge boost for her career. She did it because she loves Star Trek.
