Spielberg gets real
Apr 7, 2006, 10:56 GMT
Los Angeles - Oscar-winner Steven Spielberg wants to use reality television to help him hunt down new filmmaking talent.
The maker of 'Schindler's List' and creator of the Indiana Jones franchise is teaming up with reality TV guru Mark Burnett to make the show 'On the Lot', the entertainment website E!Online reported Thursday.
According to plans for the show, competitors would be chosen after a search across the United States, and each week, the competing teams would make a short film for presentation to a jury.
The filmmaker who survives the weekly eliminations would win a production contract with Dreamworks studio, which Spielberg co-founded.
'All through my career, I've done what I can to discover new talent and give them a start,' Spielberg said, adding that the show would allow him and the other producers 'to reach out directly to open a much wider door.'
The show is to begin airing in 2007 on the US, Fox television network.
(note from M&C editors : Seems Matt Damon & buddy Ben Affleck tried that with HBO and Miramax - 'Project Greenlilght' which lasted three seasons)
