Michael Moore thinks Donald Trump is going to win the election.
The documentary film-maker made the prediction on a Real Time With Bill Maher RNC special, with his shocking proclamation sobering up the liberal audience in the Los Angeles studio.
It came as he recounted the woes of Michigan and how Trump’s words speak to so many working class people, the way Reagan won over democrats back in the 1980s. He said voting for Trump was the last gasp of the angry white male voter.
Moore said: “I’m sorry to have to be the buzzkill here so early on, but I think Trump is going to win.” Maher agreed with him and said that “the enemy is complacency”.
The crowd was uneasy.
The Real Time special covering the RNC in Cleveland also had MSNBC host Joy-Ann Reid and “Savage Love” columnist Dan Savage as guests.
Later in the show, Maher also spoke to Tony Schwartz, the ghostwriter of Trump’s Art of the Deal, who recently condemned the Republican nominee.
He excoriated Trump, calling him “a sociopath” who never read any books as an adult.
He also said that FOX News “reset reality”, to which Maher agreed. Schwartz’s interview was a riveting tell-all despite the fact he is being sued by Donald Trump. “Join the club…” quipped Maher, who was sued by Trump after joking his dad Fred Trump might be an orangutan.
“He [Trump] was after me for the most preposterous imaginable things nothing to do with the law because this is what he does. He lies as anybody who in my sense has sociopathic tendencies will do.” – Tony Schwartz, author of The Art of the Deal.
