Finding Jesus asks: Did Saint Thomas bring Christianity to India?

Christianity reached India some time in the first two centuries after Jesus died

This week Finding Jesus: Faith, Fact, Forgery finishes up the season by examining the story of Saint Thomas and his possible connections with India.

Doubting Thomas got his name after refusing to believe that Jesus had appeared to the other apostles following his crucifixtion. Only after Jesus came to him and let Thomas touch his wounds did his faith return.

After the resurection of Christ, Thomas pretty much disappears from the the New Testament but some recent archeological evidence might give us a clue as to where Thomas went.

Christianity appeared in India in the first couple of centuries of the Common Era.

However, it is a bit of a mystery exactly how it got there. Is it possible that Jesus’ disciple Thomas made his way across Iran to India and founded one of the earliest churches in the sub continent?

Last week Finding Jesus examined the tomb of King Herod.

Finding Jesus airs Sundays at 9:00 PM on CNN.
