Great and informative article! thank you thank you. Love everything about the Fortress of Style, from the Bookcase and very unique Crystal Fireplace and have spent many an episode wondering about Josef's artistic ceiling. Thank you for all the information. More with Moonlight, please. It rocks. :)
The sets are awesome on Moonlight! Thank you for the article on the Fortress of Style and Josef's ceiling. Very cool information.
Best set on television! One of the things I like about rewatching all the episodes is just to study all the details on the sets.
Mick's and Josef's apartments in Moonlight are so beautiful and stylish. My faves in Mick's apartment are the fireplace and the bookcase and I love Josef's ceiling (I have a feeling there is one big clue to be found on that ceiling). Kudos on creating such fabulous sets! Makes Moonlight a joy to watch!
Yeah i just LOVE to see the fire place its so amazing and pretty and love Mick's apartment too,is really creative.
THANK you so much for answering these questions! I love the set design in Moonlight and have been obsessing over it since the first episode. Thanks for answering our questions and I'm sure we'll have more as the series goes on.
The art in Mick's apartment--is it all real artists and craftspeople, like the artist for Josef's ceiling? or was any of it made specifically for the show?
Great to see these kinds of details about the show. Mick's fireplace has always interested me, and his bookcase has also made me think, 'Oh wow, now that would be the answer to my overflowing bookcase problems!' The more I see of Josef's place, too, the more it says about him. Just excellent.
Thanks so much for these answers! I love Moonlight, and the sets really work well to capture the characters' lifestyles. Excellent design!!!
I would like to know who did the painting in Mick's loft - the one with helicopters & palm trees?
Thank you,
And yes, wonderful sets!
Love the sets! Thanks for the info. I forwarded this to my son who lives in Seattle and has a good eye for decorating. I know he will covet the bookshelves!
Moonlight is THE best show on TV!
You know what's 'inappropriate' M&M? You launching a personal attack against somebody else on a public site. Moonlightline.com is a well-respected site for fans of the show and it's cast. Just because the owner of the board is active in showing her support for the continuation of Moonlight by attending events does not make her a stalker. You do know that is why they hire celebrities to attend events in the first place, right? It is clear to me that you can't tell the difference. Take your insults elsewhere.
On to more important things: I love the set designs- thank you for posting this! I was always curious how that crystal fireplace works. ;P
Again another article about my favorite show, thanks very informative and great to hear about the wonderful set designs, who does it and where they get their great ideas, thanks once-again. luckysweetpea13
M&M: Your comments are completely off-topic and inappropriate for this public forum. If you have issues with any of the Administrators or Moderators at MoonlightLine.com, please have the courage, dignity, and decency to address them with us on that site. It will be our pleasure to discuss them with you there. This type of 'cowboy diplomacy' serves no one well. We will be happy to meet you on the site.
On to the topic at hand....I love the sets used on Moonlight. They are beautiful, stylish, and completely reflective of the charactors for whom they were designed. Kudos to the set designers! Well done, everyone!!
bitter much???? M&M?? LOL, I think that all the work Lisa has done for moonlightline and for the fans of Alex and the show is amazing!! I am proud of her and I hope she keeps it up! You should be ashamed of your comments here. Lisa has been nothing but kind to fans of moonlight and from what I have seen her expressions of fan support for herself and her fellow fans have been accepted with nothing less than warmth and appreciation!
Very informative and cool article! I love Moonlight's sets and had wondered if that bookcase was custom-built (I'd LOVE one like that in my house!). I'm also in love with all the glass in Mick's kitchen-it lends a sleek and modern look to the Fortress of Style.
To the obnoxious poster: That was cold, dude. Very cold, very cruel, and VERY unnecessary. Lisa's set up a very cool place where Moonlight fans can hang out and attacking her was just plain mean and nasty-I hope you're proud of yourself. Just remember-if it wasn't for the fans that support them, actors and actresses would be unemployed.
M&M, I cannot believe you would feel the need to post such an attack on a public site. Your personal complaint with Lisa has nothing whatsoever to do with the featured article above. If you have a problem with her, I suggest you find a better way to deal with it than leaving a comment on a random article where it doesn't apply in the slightest. Ridiculous behavior for you to display for the whole world to see. If you are a fan of 'Moonlight' then you, as well, should be extremely appreciative of all the hard work Lisa has done to represent the fans and show support for the show. As for her contact with the cast and crew, I think they're able to take care of themselves. They deal with actual obsessive stalkers all the time. If at any time they didn't want to talk to her anymore, how easy it would've been for them to call security? They attend these events for the sole purpose of drawing publicity and their own fans to showing up. Lisa is doing an amazing job as a General leading us to fight for our show. I hope you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself.
As for the article, EXTREMELY interesting as always to find out about the work they do behind the scenes of putting this show together! Mick has the coolest bookcase. Thank you so much for putting this up! Love hearing anything about Josef's place... ;) Vampire solidarity, rah rah rah! And all that... :P
To the poster M&M who posted inappropriate comments that have nothing to do with the subject at hand, you need to take a deep breath and re-evaluate your priorities. You have just made a personal attack on someone who shows nothing but support of ML, its actors and fans. I am ashamed for you. Seek help.
To the subject at hand, the set is interesting but I don't like Mick's counter top, it's kind of cheesy looking lol.
I love the sets on Moonlight. Mick's place is totally cool in every way. I especially love the crystal fireplace, and now I know how it works. The focal point to me on this set is the bookcase. A very different and unique display for Mick's books. I'm sure there will many running to create that design themselves. Very nice stuff indeed!
M&M, I dont know what your beef is with Lisa or anyone else for that matter, but this is not the place. Not only does your rant make you look petty, it also doesnt shed much credibility on you. Attacking people in such the way that you did is wrong and cruel. No matter how or what is driving you to this type of attack, A real ethical person would have never brought it to this place. All you have ended up doing is created bad Karma for yourself. 'Two wrongs never make a right', 'Agree to disagree', 'Live and let live', and most importantly, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'!
Thanks for the info on the set -- very hip, very stylish, very vamp cool.
As for the cruel post above, it is beyond inappropriate, and I hope it will be removed quickly. It's a shame that someone who loves the show and has been very generous with her time, abilities and money would be attacked in this cowardly way.
*Ok. Who left the crib open?*
Lisa please know that I love you and appreciate everything you have done for Moonlight. Unfortunately, you have to take the good with the bad... Alex giving you a big ol' hug and poor M&M having to play with him/her self.
This is such a great site and forum and the interviews and stories posted here about Moonlight are highly appreciated by fans of the show.
M&M, Your comments were rude and ridiculous and show just what a pathetic person you are. If this is the best way you can think of to get attention you are one sorry sorry person. You desperately need to take your psychotic problems to a professional.
M&M. I feel sorry for you. That's all I have to say at this moment because if I stated how I really felt it would come out as venomous and uncensored as your post. I also hate to tell you this, but your comments are having the opposite effect as you intended, as you can see from above. Thank you for giving Alex, Moonlight, moonlightline.com and the very hard-working and beautiful Lisa the publicity. Every little bit helps, you know.
I sent those additional questions from talkback to Chris Marsteller and he wrote back the following:
The art in Mick's apartment--is it all real artists and craftspeople, like the artist for Josef's ceiling? or was any of it made specifically for the show?
Yes, and yes. All of the art is the work of professional artists. We had two pieces commissioned by artist Kai Samuels-Davis. He did the two pieces that appear as murals in mick's loft. He is an amazingly quick artist, and we happened by him in a shop on Beverly in Los Angeles where he had an art show running. There was a time lapse video playing of him painting and he was banging out these great paintings in about six hours! It was incredible to watch! We also have two pieces by an artist named Chris Hero. We found him while shopping at H.D. Buttercup in Los Angeles. A couple of his paintings were hanging in the back near the shipping docks. They were so striking we had to inquire about them. Turned out his work studio was in the same building. We found the painting of the helicopter over the palm trees (in mick's dining area) and the large painting of the LA riots with the police man (in mick's office) in his work studio. We also have some of my long time favorites in Mick's hallway of the large faces. They are from an artist named Neil Shigley in San Diego. I am from San Diego and worked there many years. These pieces are carved into large sheets of plexi glass much like linoleum block prints. I remember going to Neil's a few years ago to rent some other pieces and saw him working on them. I remembered them because they are all portraits of homeless people in San Diego. Believe it or not, in my former life I was a bicycle messenger in San Diego and remembered seeing some of the homeless people around downtown. I always thought they were very powerful, bold pieces in the way that he caught their character in each one. I was glad to finally have a set to use them in.
Thank you M&C for more great information about Moonlight! The sets of this show are beautiful and unique, and I'm glad to be able to learn more about them. I hope you will continue your coverage of Moonlight...I can't wait to see what we might learn next!
With regard to the disparaging post my M&M above, I am proud to be associated with Lisa and the other members of the fan community moonlightline.com. I hope that M&C will see this post for the personal attack that it is and remove it from the public forum.
Thanks again, M&C!
Thank you to Chris Marsteller for the additional information regarding the artists' work that we have the priviledge of enjoying on the show. The work is beautiful and knowing the background makes them even more delightful. A special thanks to you Chris for taking your time to explain not only the set design; but also the collaborative effort to bring the sets to life. Beautiful work that we the fans of Moonlight look forward to seeing.
Monsters&Critics, thank you.
Monsters & Critics, thanks so much for these articles on more than just the actors--I really appreciate the background info about set design, etc.
A special thanks to April for passing along my question about the artists' work seen in Mick's apartment and office. Many thanks to you, Chris, for filling us in on these wonderful artists' works and your personal connection to the artists.
You know, CBS could have an entire website devoted to these behind-the-scenes details, with extensive credits for the artists and 'product placement'-- and I'm sure they would get LOTS of hits. And long interviews like these with the crew. There's an audience for details like 'a typical day's shooting from script to final cut'.
They could even sell advertising to the stores you've mentioned!
Glad to see another article on a show worthy of the attention. The sets were given a lot of thought beforehand and it really shows. If you haven't already started watching Moonlight...check it out on CBS Friday nights!
Love the Fortress of Style!I'm designing my own Mickbookshelf, for my 10000 art/coffeetable library! Thanks for the great ideas!
The glass that was actually used was Aquatic Glassel in the fireplaces on the set.
