With the recent DVD release of “Dexter – The First Season” hitting the shelves this past Tuesday, one can only hope that it’s enough to quench our thirst for blood until this September.

“Dexter” brings you the ironic story of a Miami forensics blood spatter expert that has more than a few skeletons in his closet, no pun intended.
During the day, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is a happy-go-lucky guy that is forced to split his time between his overdramatic sister, his girlfriend and her 2 kids, and his job at the police department.
But when he is not attempting to solve crimes, he is committing them.
Dexter was taught at an early age by his adoptive father (James Remar), to channel his inner serial killer into something that could be used to help society.
At night, he takes to the streets with knife in hand, and plays the vigilante by killing only those that plague Miami with their own corruption such as murder and pedophilia.
The show gets even more interesting when Dexter is called to the scene of a crime only to find that the work of “The Ice Truck Killer” is, in a way, mocking him.
Dexter becomes intrigued as he and his new mysterious foe play a game of cat and mouse throughout all 12 episodes that you have to watch in its entirety to appreciate.
The show is a work of art that combines colorful characters with a dark sense of humor, which make it extremely enjoyable to watch.
Though the advertisements and descriptions of the series would give off the impression that it is nothing but scenes of gore and murder, it is actually pretty tame leaving most of it to the imagination.
“Dexter” is definitely a unique series that will get you sympathizing with this anti-hero rather than loathing him.
I highly recommend the “Dexter – The First Season” DVD to both fans of the show and those who haven’t seen it but appreciate the genre. I found myself diving head first into this show and getting hooked after the first episode.
So brush up on your season one, sharpen your blades, and get ready to catch “Dexter” Season 2 premiering on September 30th on Showtime, and the third installment of the book series the show is based on, “Dexter In The Dark” by Jeff Lindsay, on September 18th.
