PARANORMAL STATE is an upcoming half-hour series chronicling the extraordinary life of Ryan Buell and other members of the Penn State University Club The Paranormal Research Society (PRS) as they seek to find the truth behind terrifying real life mysteries, hauntings and ghosts. In some ways, the members of PRS are your basic college kids - dealing with the problems of school, dating, and finding their way in the world. The difference is that these students are drawn to examining "other" worlds as well -- working on cases that include ghosts, hauntings and other paranormal phenomena.
Each week, they are contacted for help by outside parties ranging from the Catholic Church to ordinary families who are terrified by unusual events in their homes.

This show is absurd. The experience that Ryan is referring to when he was a child is a common side effect of what is known as Sleep Paralysis. It is a state just before reaching REM sleep or just coming out of it. Your mind is awake before your body awakes and your brain is still in a semi-lucid state. It is like a sort of waking dream where reality is mixed with the surreal/subconscious mind. Most of the time total paralysis of the body happens in this state and you are not able to move, cry out etc. which. It is a feeling of terror and dread and extreme anxiety. Someone who believes that this experience is a demon, ghost, etc. may say that they were paralyzed with fear. This is actually a chemical response in the brain and a disconnection with the central nervous system. Often times during this state auditory and/or visual hallucinations occur. In other words, the state of Sleep Paralysis blends the conscious realm with the subconscious realm which makes these hallucinations seem real. I experience this several times a week and it is still alarming even though I know what is going on. I have seen trolls as well, dark spirits, etc. and experienced the feeling of out of body experiences in this state. None of these shows mention sleep paralysis which can explain (9% of these so called haunting. It is not true science if you are only trying to prove your hypothesis, you should also be trying to disprove it. When you watch these shows you will notice that most of the time people are in bed or sitting when the experience these things. It is not a coincidence.
Oh really to the one who posted the first comment. Then EXPLAIN the incredibly real phenomena that occurs while EVERYONE is clearly awake. I am a Christian and believe that demonic spirits exists all over the world. I believe everyone has been given a gift by God. Ryan has a unique gift to help those who are dealing with negative paranormal activity. Most of us were designed to NOT be able to understand stuff like this. Our brains are capable of so much but most of us are limited to only minimal activity. Just think about it! You can't make this stuff up!

Here is a case worth investigating. My brother Scott who lives close to Pittsburgh is constantly bothered by something which actually causes pain and marks to appear on his body. Since the experience isn't medical in nature he doesn't know who to turn to. Maybe you could help or know someone who can. Maybe you could document theses events. I talked to him a few minutes ago and he said he would welcome any help you could provide. He doesn't have internet access so the only way to talk to him is by phone (724)274-0078.

This show is the best show ever and the cast really cares about their effect on the clients.
