Smallscreen - Nip/Tuck
At the recent TCA panel in Beverly Hills, FX's "Nip/Tuck" creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy has the city of Los Angeles as a theme this fourth season, because people who come to L.A., he says, "come to reinvent themselves."
Murphy mentioned in passing that originally the show was supposed to take place in Los angeles, not Florida.
Sean and Christian are to be medical consultants on a low budget Nip/Tuck-like plastic surgery show, called Hearts & Scalpels.
"It's kind of like Nip/Tuck, but not," says Murphy of the satirical show within the show. “It’s like the worst plastic surgery show ever made. It’s so bad, they hire our guys to help.” Murphy lets out that bradley Cooper will be playing the head plastic surgeon hearthrob. Oliver Platt will be the mock show's exec. producer
The cast will be heading west, as Murphy explains: “The one year we didn’t focus on [the family] was our least successful year.”
Julia will show up to share news about her life, and sticks around. Liz will come out to support the boys after they offer to double her salary. And Kimber and Matt will come out for their self-serving agendas.
The story will have interesting character twists assures Murphy and the cast. Regarding Christian: “He’s always felt he could dominate the situation, but in L.A., he feels he’s surrounded by people who are better than him. Better looking, just as charming," reveals actor Julian McMahon. Sean, usually consumed with self-doubt, is on the upswing in the confidence department.
Murphy announced guest stars Portia de Rossi (to play an acupuncturist) Rosie O’Donnell will return in episode four as Dawn Budge.
Murphy noted the art department tweaked stages and worked overtime to create the new delicious sets, with noted set decorator Ellen Brill adding the right interior accoutrements for the sexy surgeons work and play space.
"We're through [shooting] episodes eight and nine and the show still feels the same. We're still exploring social issues and hot-button [topics], but it's also as sexy as ever."
