It’s been well over a year since Homeland last aired on Showtime. Homeland Season 8 will be the final season and after numerous delays, it has a 2020 release date. In the current season, a barely lucid Carrie is released from Russian detention after seven months without her medication.
Showtime is yet to drop an official trailer for the upcoming season but you can watch a short teaser below.
In the upcoming season, Saul Berenson, who is now the National Security Advisor for President Ralph Warner, sends Carrie returns to Kabul, Afganistan in an effort to secure a peace deal with the Taliban.
As previously reported, the cast will feature the return of Season 4 key players ISI Agent Tasneem Qureshi (Nimrat Kaur) and Taliban leader Haissam Haqqani (Numan Acar).

Homeland adds Cliff Chamberlain & Hilary Jardine in recurring roles for Season 8
According to Deadline, Cliff Chamberlain will portray Mike Dunne — the CIA Station Chief in Kabul, Afghanistan in a major recurring role. This is the position Carrie held in Season 4 as she hunted down Haissam Haqqani.

Jardine will portray Claudatte Fletcher who is described as “a former State Department employee turned freelance consultant with a global network of assets.”
Costa Ronin (The Americans) returns as Yevgeny Gromov in a major role and Linus Roache will reprise his role as David Wellington, presumably in President Warner’s cabinet.
What is the plot for Homeland Season 8?
President Warner has set his sights on ending the ongoing conflict in Afganistan and has assigned Saul to spearhead peace talks with the Taliban. Although Carrie is struggling with memory loss from her detention in Russia, Saul requires her expertise, connections, and experience in dealing with the Taliban to secure a peace treaty. In the final season, Carrie and Saul will work together one last time in Kabul.
The last time the duo were in Kabul, Saul was kidnapped by the Taliban and Carrie’s convoy was hit with an RPG as Haqqani’s men infiltrated the US embassy. Therefore, fans of Homeland should prepare for an action-packed send-off of the long-running series.
Homeland returns to Showtime for Season 8 on February 9.
