Conan O’Brien finalizes the deal for his new late-night show on TBS. Starting in November, it will air Monday-Thursday from 11pm to midnight ET/PT, followed by The George Lopez Show. The announcement surprised almost everyone, as Fox was considered the most likely prospect, but the move to basic cable seems to have given him what he really wanted–ownership of the show, even though his salary and production budget will be lower.

Matt Damon is confirmed for a guest starring spot on 30 Rock as a love interest for Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon. At this point, he will appear in one episode, but NBC hopes to secure him for more. (Watch with Kristin)

Paula Malcomson (Caprica) has been cast for a multi-episode arc of Sons of Anarchy when Season 3 returns to FX in the fall. Her character’s name is Maureen, and showrunner Kurt Sutter revealed that she would be part of the Belfast storyline that follows from the dramatic Season 2 conclusion in which Jax’s son was kidnapped by an Irish arms merchant. Castle has been renewed by ABC for a full 22-episode third season. The show reached a series high of 15 million viewers with the two-week event featuring Dana Delany as a tough, intelligent FBI agent helping Beckett and the NYPD catch a serial killer.

With True Blood‘s third season premiering June 13th, HBO has kicked off a 12-week promotional campaign for the addictive vampire series, using the tagline: “Waiting Sucks.” Following repeats of Season 2 every Sunday night, behind-the-scenes footage is being shown, also available on the HBO website.

Carrie Preston (wife of Lost‘s Michael Emerson) is heading to The Good Wife for a multi-episode arc. She will be playing the role of Elsbeth Mann, a member of Peter’s legal team. At first, this raised some speculation about what may be in store for Preston’s True Blood character, Merlotte’s waitress Arlene, but she assures fans that she is still alive and well in Bon Temps. Fox officially announced the cancellation of 24. Day 8 will conclude with a two-hour series finale on Monday, May 24th. Kiefer Sutherland released a statement in which he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play Jack Bauer, “the role of a lifetime.” The decision to end the show was agreed upon by everyone involved, and they view this as the culmination of years of hard work.

Mary McDonnell will be reprising her role on TNT’s The Closer as Captain Sharon Raydor for at least five episodes in the upcoming season. In her previous appearances, McDonnell’s character has butted heads with Kyra Sedgwick’s Brenda Lee Johnson, and she is expected to create more tension-filled situations when the show returns for its sixth season this summer. Showtime renewed both original series in its Monday night lineup, United States of Tara and Nurse Jackie, for a Season 3.
