Ban: Businesses too passive against climate change

Copenhagen - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday criticized the lack of engagement by businesses in the fight against the threat of climate change. Speaking at a climate conference in Copenhagen attended by nearly a thousand business representatives, Ban said that up till now only a small portion of the business world and investors have made climate change a top priority. Too many were, according to Ban, sitting on the fence and waiting for others to act. Business representatives at Sunday's conference, taking place ahead of the United Nations' key climate talks in Copenhagen in December, are to seek to make proposals on the reduction of CO2 emissions. Also taking part in the conference are former US vice president Al Gore and the head of the UN Climate Council Rajendra Pachauri, as well as EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
