Scientists are confused because these hobbits refute evolution. It's very clear that these early humans were destroyed by the flood of Noah almost 7000 years ago (4990 BC). The waters of the flood reached 15 cubits over the highest mountains. As a result, the hobbits drowned to death during the 150 days of flooding. But these scientists dismiss these things because it does not fit the theory of evolution. But eventually, the truth will surface as more and more discoveries come to light.

Gen 7:19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.21 ¶ And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.

You know I am a person of faith but to dispute some of the scientific proof that has come in the past 200 years would be nothing more than pulling the wool over your eyes. Is it more that you want to believe that God created man as we are or maybe he had in mind evolution when he created the universe. while I believe god is our creator, science has proven we have evolved from at least five versions of 'Homo.' Australopithicines, Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, Homo Sapiens Neandortalesis, and finally what humans are know as today, Homo Sapiens Sapienes. Now I am just an undergrad. student with two Associates Degrees, but hey your way feels the gap that humans need on a personal level. But remember FAITH is not exact, however science is!

Darrel is clearly blinded by his faith. The evidence for evolution is clear and overwhelming. In this instance, it is obvious to all but the willfully blind that homo floresiensis is another species of advanced great ape, a.k.a as human.
