Just because our solar system has planets close to the sun doesn't mean other solar systems do. You can't make generalizations about the universe based on one example. Now if we had proof that 9 out of 10 observed solar systems had planets close to their sun, we could say that, but we are not there yet. I wish astronomers would stop presenting supposition to the public as if it were fact.
