Totally out of my league here, but I read an article that said the magnetic field is switching (north will be south,) and when that happens it will lower the magnetic shield for some time. This apparently has happened in the past. The article said that process is happening now and may also be part of this?

Correct these are natural cycles, a really big one is coming up in about 4 years. However it does not remove the fact that we have made these natural cycles, tho a pain in the rear, untenable, by our actions/inactions.

Wow, we are such an incredibly powerful species. Now we are affecting the sun. I wonder if it was something I did.

Unbeknownst to humans, whose records span less than a heartbeat of celestial time, there are threats to life on earth that exceed our wildest fears, and bring home the crucial message that life on Earth is delicate, precious, incredibly rare, and in every case worthy of our most dedicated protections and nurturence. While many speak with undeserved bluster, accusing some of being 'bleeding hearts' and saying to others 'man's passing will matter little in the grand scheme' both of these positions are vastly mistaken. Mankind is the only animal ever produced by evolution -or- creation with a single amazing power: the power to protect all living beings. Instead, we have become so confused by our toxic relationships with knowledge and technology, that we have become a primary local threat to Life on Earth.

The cycles of the Sun have a vast impact on all organisms on our world, and so too the cycles of the biosphere herself. But strangely, our own species' ideas about what beings are, or mean, may well matter more in the short term... organelle.org

I strongly agree with that we are not influencing the sun activity, and 80% with what organelle.org said

all in all don't be as**ole!

we do make impact on our nature with our recklessness.

No one is claiming we made the sun dim. The magnetic cycle of the earth may or may not be switching, those who say it is are way on the fringe. The suns cycle that is going on now, or the one approaching in 4 years, has been doing this for billions of years in a period of 10-20 years. So, although its eventful its and does have an affect on us, more so our electronics, its not a huge concern. As far as the helio-pause is concerned, we don't know whats going on at the edge of the solar system, which is the reason where launching it -- any conclusion of whats going on out their is also fringe science. This is all very rational, which is better than either irrationally thinking god's coming to save us in the next ten minutes or thinking that we should just pollute more because we know mans not involved within the health of our planet.
