NASA to let media inspect damage to launch pad at Kennedy

Washington - The US space agency NASA was set Monday to host media in viewing damage to the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, and the repair work going on there. The pad was damaged during the May 31 launching of the space shuttle Discovery, which returned safely to earth on Saturday after a 14-day mission for further installation work on the International Space Station. NASA said the damage was in an area of the launch pad known as the flame trench. The agency said it expected repairs would be completed in time for the next shuttle launch. The shuttle Atlantis is set for a mission to NASA's Hubble Space Telescope on October 8.
