The More appropriate term would be climate change apposed to global warming. The argument about C02 is that it alters weather patterns that have been more less the same for the past few thousand years. As far as I am aware the prediction is that weather patterns become more extreme colder winters and hotter summers.
The carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has been removed from the carbon cycle for millions of years coal and oil is made up of fossilized algae that was alive during the Jurassic it took millions of years for this carbon to be trapped way and it is being released into the air as a concentrate since the start of the industrial revolution.
