I can NOT believe that out of that whole press conference you came up with a conclusion that NASA found in 2001!! They knew back then that there was water on Mars; they found a deposit of it just beneath the surface that would fill Lake Michigan twice. Research, people, research...its a basic skill needed for journalism!

The interesting part was that there was evidence of recent FLOWING water that left possible mineral deposits from areas of Mars they can not explore with the present equipment. What does this mean? It means if they can manuever the rovers over there and take some samples they will get a better idea as to what Mars is made of at its core, or at the very least, the lower level mantles.

You also completely missed the photos of the meteor strikes...well the craters left by them. One was as large as a football field and made by an object about the size of a car!! You've seen video of cars dropping in a junk yard, can you image the speed at which it would have to have travelled to make a crater THAT big?? And they have better pictures as to how debris is spread during a strike and the flows of air (shockwaves)...before this they only could theorize based on old/ancient craters and experiments influenced by Earth's atmosphere.

There was so MUCH in that press conference and all you got out of it was....'Scientists found water on Mars' (paraphrased). Please lets get someone with some enthusiaism for the subject to write the story next time...someone who will actually LISTEN to what's said and not hear the teacher's voice from the 'Charlie Brown' cartoons. GEEZ!!!!

I agree with the first comment, this article is very limited, almost a waste of time. It seems there is allot of this going around, all the articles I have been reading about this are way too short, and don't supply enough detailed info.

Are there any intelligent life forms on earth???

Study the shadows in the photos at this site: http://www.world-science.net/othernews/061206_mars-water.htm&cid=1111783821
It appears that the artifact may have simply been masked by the different angle from which the original photo was taken.

I am looking for the rest of the photos presented at the conference. They may be worth further study.

Looks to me like some relatively small object hit the side of the crater at a shallow angle and left a mark on its way down. It could even have been a fragement of a comet, which would explain why it looks like water. I wonder if the current Rovers have the ability to pick up a small rock and dump it over the edge of a crater to see what kind of mark it leaves. Overall, I don't see this as a big deal.

Are you kidding me Ginger? The first line of this article states that new evidence shows that water periodically 'flows on the surface of Mars'. Additionally that liquid water has already been shown to exist on Mars, yet you critize the journalist for only coming up with the conclusion of something that NASA knew in 2001? How about reading the article before you critize, and if you don't understand it the first time then reread it.

i think there is a possible chance there will be other creatures in the universe bacause all livung things need water & it is the best planet out of all of the others to proberly have living things on.

It's interesting that the conditions for life on Mars are so willingly accepted on the contingency that these are truly water marks. The same scientists who so feel so sure that there is no evidence of a superhuman creator are now probably going to invest millions of dollars searching for microscopic creatures that their theories assure them must be there. Is the theory that water guarantees evolution more compelling than the idea that intricate design suggests a designer?
