Sarajevo - An Egyptian geologist and pyramid expert has said he supports the controversial claim of the existence of unexcavated ancient pyramids near the central Bosnian town of Visoko, it was confirmed Wednesday.
Aly Abd Alla Barakat of the Cairo-based Egyptian Mineral Resource Authority recently came to Bosnia to assist local researchers in looking for the alleged pyramids in Visoko, some 30 kilometres north of the Bosnian capital, discovered a year ago by a Sarajevo-born American Semir Osmanagic.
A group of local and international experts, including archaeologists and geologists, began two months ago to explore of Visocica hill near Visoko, believed by amateur archaeologist Osmanagic to be hiding a quadrilateral pyramid built by an unknown ancient civilization.
Preliminary researches, including scans and satellite imagery of the terrain, offered some evidence that one or more pyramids may really exist in Visoko.
The scans showed some materials, such as clay and polished stone pieces, as well as some stones with metal traces, believed not to have been created by nature.
Sophisticated satellite imagery revealed certain anomalies on the spots where the pyramids are believed to be.
Several different techniques, such as remote sensing by satellite, artificial illumination and radar topography, as experts said, showed geometric features that seem to be positioned in a triangular form, matching with the four sides of the world.
Testing the material dug up at the spot, Barakat said it must be 'some natural material treated by humans and used for building,' local media reported.
After probing several stone blocks at Visocica, Barakat stressed that those who constructed the alleged pyramids in Visoko used the same techniques to link the stone blocks as those who built the Giza edifices.
'It is very interesting that the links between the stones were made identically like in Giza and that the pyramid's base matches with the four sides of the world. Also, the stones seem to be polished in the same way like in Giza,' Barakat told local TV reporters in Visoko.
Barakat is to spend a month in Bosnia, helping other experts to solve the enigma on whether pyramids really exist in Bosnia or not.
An expert who built his experience in geological researches of famous Egyptian pyramids in Giza, Barakat was recommended to researchers by the world's leading Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, said Mario Gerussi of the Bosnian Pyramid Foundation.
