DARPA Grand ChallengeMay 19th, 2006 - 23:00:10
The DARPA Grand Challenge respectfully requests clarification of an item in a recent article about the European Land-Robot Trial 2006 where it said the Grand Challenge is only open to U.S.-led teams. Although it is true that the rules require team leaders to be U.S. citizens who are at least 21 years of age, DARPA welcomes participation by teams from outside the U.S.
There were five teams with foreign addresses in the 2005 Grand Challenge – three from Canada, one from New Zealand and one from France. Autonsys, one of the teams from Canada, made it to the semi-finals and competed in the National Qualification event. The Grand Challenge welcomes even more international participation in the Urban Challenge scheduled for 2007, including teams that competed in ELROB.
Future references to the Grand Challenge that reflect this information would be much appreciated. Thank you.
