Jan 19, 2008, 6:59 GMT
San Jose - The government of Costa Rica Friday moved to protect whales and other sea mammals in its territorial waters in the Pacific and Caribbean oceans.
Some of the waters around the Central American country are regularly visited by large sea mammals, including dolphins and whale species.
The government said the declaration was part of its efforts to contribute to the international protection of the world's ocean resources.
