The reason Europe should be reducing its oil consumption is to stop funding those who would do Europe harm and improving Europe's balance of trade. The same goes for the United States. Also, Europe and the US should stop burning coal and do everything they can to encourage India and China to stop burning coal. Why? Because burning coal dumps very long lived toxins, mercury in particular, into the environment the world over.

Global warming is a red herring.

Baghdad residents got the surprise of their lives when they woke up to the sight of snow falling on Friday morning.

The snowfall comes a welcome respite to Iraqis who have experienced mostly war in recent years. Thus many consider the phenomenon as a symbol of peace and hope for their country.

In mountainous Kurdish areas off northern Iraq, snow is fairly common, but not in the capital Baghdad. Even senior residents could not recall when was the last time snow fell in their area. But in recent days, Baghdad has witnessed freezing temperatures.

Here is something that Tonny has been posting regularly. It is very useful because it does point up a very unfortunate human tendency, especially if they happen to believe in something very strongly. It makes them susceptible to the dreaded 'idee fixe', pardon my bad spelling of the French phrase;

Here is but one page of a very large site that seems, in my opinion at least, to do a pretty good job of tracing the history of scientific efforts to decide about CO2 and global warming. It's big, some of the reading is dry, but it is written in PLAIN ENGLISH. Unlike the bureaucratic gobbledegook used by the IPCC, anyone should be able to follow this without any trouble whatsoever. Oh, and the creator of this site believes that we really do have global warming caused by increases in atmospheric CO2.

France has most of it's power as nuclear, and Britain just greenlighted it too!

Now, after failing to implement Kyoto, they now have a new agreement to break.

I can't wait to see what happens next.

9 Jan 08 - So much snow has fallen on the Spokane area in the past two days that the city declared a 'condition red' snow emergency today. Crews will be plowing snow 24 hours a day, seven days a week until they remove snow from all 967 miles of streets.

'If no more snow falls, crews should reach residential streets on Friday,' the city said.

Unfortunately, the National Weather Service predicts more heavy snowfall for Thursday and Saturday.

A record 5.4 inches of snow fell on Spokane International Airport Tuesday, beating the previous record of 4.6 inches for the date set in 1909. An additional 2 inches fell Wednesday morning.

' Iraqis who have experienced mostly war in recent years '
And your point is ? Iraqis have been killing each other for 100 years . The only people that can stop the ' wars ' in Iraq are Iraqis .
