They are all expecting sombody else to do somthing about global warming and trying to prove that somone else is worse than they are.
The only thing that will make them do anything is when the fossil fuel begins to run out or become too expensive.

Whoooops I think that may already be happening.

RE:'According to the UN Development Programme, anti-disaster measures in Britain alone cost six times more than the amounts spent in all poor countries combined.'

Has anyone noticed this? Has anyone thought about what it means? Clearly, neither news reporters, news editors and politicians have not thought about it at all.

Do we have Global Warming? Yes. Can we do anything to stop or reverse it? Possibly, but whatever we do, it will take decades, perhaps a century to reverse the current warming trend. Assuming the sun continues to shine as brightly as it is is now. We have no guarantees about variations in solar output.

What this means is that we are not paying any attention at all to some of the things we should be taking care of RIGHT NOW. Are we laying out new irrigation systems? No. Are improving levies bridges and dams? No. Are we working out evacuation plans for areas that cannot be saved from flooding? No.

Can we do anything at all to slow or reverse the warming, even if it is nothing more than the sun burning hotter than usual. Yes. Should we? That's a hard question to answer.

Here is the way I see it. The bulk of the energy from the sun impinges on the earth's surface between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. All we really need to do is to attenuate, not block, the amount of sunlight falling in this region. This can be done by placing a large number of silvered Mylar(tm) balloons in high orbit over this sector of the globe. Each balloon would cast a faint shadow. With enough balloons, this would work very much like a perforated screen put over a window. It would attenuate the amount of light reaching the surface of the earth without blocking it out entirely and thereby reduce solar input by five percent or so.

Should we do such a thing? I am not convinced. First off, we want to be absolutely certain that we could recover those balloons at a rapid rate should the need arise. Given the vagaries of climatology, we might well trigger an unwanted Ice Age, which would even more troublesome than a great global summer. We need to be certain that we can rapidly recover the balloons BEFORE we deploy them.

Think about it, folks. If the IPCC really does have a grip on this problem, don't you think that they would already be looking down the road? Reducing CO2 concentrations to pre-industrial levels cannot and will not happen overnight. If indeed CO2 is the cause, we are already in a pickle. If it is NOT the cause, and it likely is not, then we are working on the wrong set of problems.

I think the US should take a more active role in promoting conservation, alternative energy, etc. But I also think the mad rush to cap co2 output, that disproportionately impacts US economy, is crazy.

The US produces more co2 becuase our economy is bigger. Per unit of industrial output, the US is much cleaner and more efficient that China, former USSR, india, etc. Yet it is the US that would be punished - not the previously mentioned coutries.

The previous poster is right that we should make sure we are going in the right direction. Promoting worldwide economic recession will not help anyone - especially vulnerable populations, adapt to climate change.

...it may be true I do not like Gore..that still does not make me wrong.

Besides...how did this 300 lb weasel who once got his wife to attack rock and roll for explicit lyrics insert himself into something he is, clearly, no expert on?

Why? because libnazis got their Nobel slaves to help rebuild his career for him.

Like bad fashion designers, these Nobel wags have given peace prizes to the likes of people like Yasser Arafat, a card-carrying terrorist. They are enablers of the reactionaries of the world.

Notice that no SCIENTIST got any prize for the actual SCIENCE of global climate change, because no credible scientists wnated to have their name attached to it!

So, the gave fat f--k a 'peace prize, instead of dissidents in Russia, or Mynammar, or Zimbabwe.

What a f--king gyp.

The only war crime is Clinton ignoring terrorism leading to 9/11 and iraq. The problem with deniers like yourself is that by the time you figure out what is going on it is too late.
