BBC naturalist protests Dutch fundamentalist edit of evolution
Sep 29, 2007, 16:46 GMT
London - Renowned British naturalist David Attenborough, who has won worldwide fame for his nature programmes for the BBC, has protested edits of his work by Dutch Christian fundamentalists, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.
Attenborough has asked the BBC to step in to stop a Dutch Christian public broadcasting station that opposes Charles Darwin's ideas from editing out references to evolution in his programmes.
Some Christian fundamentalists oppose the ideas of evolution, saying that God created human beings and all the creatures currently on Earth. They are often referred to as creationists.
Attenborough told the newspaper, 'The BBC should take steps to make sure that the minuteness of the meanings are maintained.'
A BBC spokesman responded, saying: 'BBC Worldwide allows local broadcasters to make edits, but only up to a narrow margin of five minutes per hour. Their edits were less than the margin.'

In some ways I am simultanously 'amused' & 'horrified' by religious fundamentalists of all stripes, such as referred to in this article about 'chrisitan' broadcasters 'censoring' Darwin, (again);
It probably isn't physically possible for any group to promote
'evoloution' as a 'domination concept', (as opposed to being the rather 'obvious reality'!), because it would require hundreds of thousands of scientific professionals to 'prostitute' themselves, and, (more to the point...), to what purpose would they direct such an extrodinary effort???
As a 'survivor by downsizing', (July, 01), of the religio-atrocity (1 world trade ctr., NY, NY, 10048, and still, (despite Bush's economic {verbal} nonsense, my 'most current' f/t employer!) unemployed, I am concerned that 'organized religion' (monotheistic, intolerant varieties) will continue to suffer, (a 'voting with their feet' situation) a slow 'death by believer - attrition', due to it's ever-increasing detachment from reality.
If 'darwin' is a fable, it calls all of science in question; Yet, I'm able to type this comment and send it, so I must, (along with billions of other humans using the internet!), be experiencing a 'mass hallucination',
right?
Meanwhile, Bush & Ahmadinajab, (pseudo-religio-dictators of the U.S. & Iran, respectively), are threatening what could become a 'Dr. Strangelove' like nuclear war (by profit-motivated confrontation & escalation)...
...When ALL religious of every stripe are dead, post Nuclear War, who will be left to worship Christ, (Christian), Yahwah, (Jewish), Allah, (Islam), or Odin, (Neopagan; {My 'Current Belief'})??????
Evolution is just a THEORY, it is not a fact. Just as it was taught as a FACT that T-REX was supposedly a fast running dangerous preditor, now that FACT is changing to T-REX was a slow moving scavenger. All THEORIES folks, so get used to it.
Evolutionists, such as Richard Dawkins, have been very intolerant of Creationists. The normal approach is ridicule and name calling. The head of the National Science Foundation has advised Evolutionists not to debate Creationists. She stated the reason: Evolutionists almost always loose.
If indeed, Science was on the side of Evolutionists, all they would have to do when challenged to a debate would be to say,' Great, let's have at it.' That's not what happens. The opportunity to debate is refused. Also, any scientist who doubts Evolution had better keep quiet about it if he values his career.
Finally, Evolutionists must know they have an albatross called ' The Big Bang' hanging around their necks. I'm glad I don't have to defend the idea that everything came from nothing of it's own accord. Sure, I believe in the Tooth Fairy, too.
If I read Darwin's works correctly, then we should all be white-male supremacists, and there should be inumerable transition fossils between things like lobsters and spiders, worms and dragonflies. In truth, Darwinism has never been a good theory unless you're a biased fundamentalist atheist [FA]. Simply read a quote book full of self-refuting evolutionists provided by a friendly creationist and unless you're a close-minded FA, you'll have a little humility when aligning 'science' and 'evolution.'
Evolution is only a theory.
Just like the theory of gravity. That's only a theory too.
Or that ridiculous suggestion that the Earth is round and it circles the Sun.
Genesis explains everything. Twice. Almost in the same order both times.
Actually gravity is a law of physics, not a theory. It can be proven scientifically. Evolution (a biological theory) cannot be proven, it will remain a theory until the end of time.
and I remember my (Serbian) national television showing Moody Bible Institute's creationist programs edited in such a way that whenever the host says (in English) things like, God created, God's power, etc. Serbian translation says, the Nature made, the power of Nature, Nature's imagination produced, etc. Do you think they have asked the publisher for permission? he, he, he...
Evolution is a theory but one that cannot be tested.
Or perhaps a fairy tale, princess kisses a frog and the frog turns into a prince (in 100 million years)

If they don't believe in evolution, why are they buying wildlife programs which they must know will constantly refer to it? A certain lack of logic is evident.
There would, I assume, be problems with continuity. Finally, there is also the issue of program or artistic integrity.
