Awesome I'd like to know about the story on how planets were made

andyMay 12th, 2007 - 13:44:16

The planets are just left over bits of rock and heavier elements from the formation of stars, and happened not just millions, but billions, of years after the formation of the Universe in the Big Bang.
This new telescope will be looking back to the Big Bang - not really anything to do with planet formation

The use of disinformation and diversion to manipulate public opinion is a highly developed art. It is well understood not only by psychological operations experts in the national security establishment, but also by marketing and public relations wizards. With the engineering of public reaction to September 11, disinformation has been used with a sophistication and depth that is historically unprecedented. A key tool in this modern form of psychological warfare is the 'meme' -- an idea that acts like an infectious agent to spread itself through a population. Through careful construction of memes, the perpetrators could depend on others to unwittingly promote their cover story and conceal the truth. Their disinformation strategy was twofold. First, they would sell the official story to the masses through the compliant mass media, relying on people's desire to believe the official story. Second, they would seed specious ideas in the community of '9/11 skeptics' in order to distract and discredit them.

Andy is completely right. Planets are just left over debris, galmorous right? They were protoplanets that crashed together and formed together and made planets.

Wait, let's go back to the memes. How do they fit into the telescope? Can we see the manupulators of the social unconscious with the James Webb thing? Does Mr. Webb know we're trying to scrutinize his memes? What would Mrs. Webb say?

'I hope they don't discover that the universe expands even further out and they then want an even bigger telescope later.'

Yeah I would encourage people to discourage things like this.

'At 4.5 billion dollars, Webb is nearly half as costly as Hubble would have been at today's rates - it cost 1.6 billion dollars two decades ago '

Not good enough. In/for an already doomed civilization, the data that Hubble has already collected is going to take over a century (optimistic) to analyze. Deep space study has got to be the lowest of the lowest priority. Someone told me that that NASA employee drove from Tennessee to Florida wearing diapers to kill somebody. I don't know if that's true but that seems to be the kind of people we're talking about.

I don't think Americans should be wasting their taxdollars, and money borrowed from China, on all this 'science' stuff.

Most Americans are too stupit to understand the results, much less the implications...
Plus, we've got to kill all the Evildoers on this planet before we can worry about Outer Space.

Let the Chinese pay for all this research about the Universe. I hear they are good at math and stuff... Let them waste the money directly, without lending it to the U.S. to waste...

Its not like anything useful ever comes out of this Research stuff, anyway...

Amazing that they're going to place this scope on the far side of the moon. Thats one perfect place for a scope like this.

Technologically also a great achievement. Heh , and i imagine a 'service' mission would also be a treat to watch. NASA would be forced to send ppl to the moon then if Webb needed servicing.

If Mr Neutron is typical of the dumbed down americans then you can see why the Chinese (and others) are more advanced.
Also america is full of bible bashing creationists who seem to think the planets were put together by a 'God' using some spare bits of rock and a tube of superglue before deciding to populate it with 'wonderful' (they probably assume american) human beings. Then 'God' seems to have given up and decided he (she) might as well let the stupid humans kill each other off (especially the gun fixated americans) - far cheaper than hiring Godobash, his favourite demolition gang
No wonder america is going downhill so fast

I guess it is indeed alarming that such a large part of the american population still believes in fairytales like creation and godstuff .Unimaginable 40 years ago when religious folklore was only for hillbillies .I still am puzzled to how it is possible som many people believe creationism is true when every possible science points in the same direction ;evolution. It has been explained, proven beyond any reasonable doubt and still the evangelist biggots are trying to force the american population into a relgious straightjacket .Wake up America .

Well the creationists aren't answering because they don't read this stuff as much as one would like to think.
Besides the politics this telescope will be a great achievement. Good on them.
There are lots of unanswered questions, and this telescope will illuminate some answers.
Scientists are a pacifist lot for the most part; spending money on this telescope is a good idea. We know where all the money is being spent these days; it's kind of like an oil industry 'going out of business' sale. You know that peak oil is only 2-3 years away now.
America has enough intelligent people to offset the nonsense going on; I only hope it happens sooner rather than later.
And 'sports fan,' in discourse such as this, do try to think before you clap or boo. :/

He is so self absorbed there is no place for any original thought. Things are always the way he believes (even if he has zero knowledge of the subject matter) and no one else could possibly have more experience or a better slant on things.

We are looked down upon, Therefore we need a immigration bill to keep people out of here. The only reason we are looked down upon because we are fighting wars for your counties so you can worry about the global warming lie. On 16th December 1944 in what became known as 'The Battle of the Bulge' Hitler's regime attempted to reverse the tide of the war in the West. In a last ditch gamble, they attacked in an attempt to capture Antwerp by inflicting massive losses on the first U.S. Army. This attack hit my grandmother's home village and for a few days it looked like the joy of the liberation in September was about to be replaced by the imminent return of Hitler's jackbooted thugs. Fortunately for my mother and her countrymen, Hitler underestimated the capacity of the young American soldier to absorb, stop and defeat the German attack. 'Once more, young Americans made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of Belgium.'

But much of your intervention in various conflicts from world war 2 onwards has been at a price, so you are effectively acting as mercenaries - look back at Lend Lease or more recently the charges for both the Iraq invasions

As for the pseudo-liberals who have replaced religion with another religion called science, bully for you...

By the way, creationism and the big bang have one thing in common: Neither has ANY scientific basis in fact. 100% of the big bang theory is pure speculation. It may as well have been god who did it! Until some tangible scientific observation occurs, these two should be sleeping together. This is the 20th century's version of the Immaculate Conception.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa - If it seemed April did not deliver on the promise of spring, you are correct. It was the coldest April in 32 years.

'The warm weather of recent days is in stark contrast to the persistent chill that enveloped the region much of the month,' notes Eric Horst of Millersville University's Weather Information Center.

'The magnitude and persistence of the early- to mid-month chill was such that April concluded as the coldest since 1975 and the 13th coldest on record (since 1914).

The average monthly temperature for April was 49 degrees, nearly 3 degrees colder than normal.

The average high was 58 degrees and the average low was just under 40 degrees.

In his review of the month, Horst rated the nor'easter of April 15 the climatic event of the month.
