Sayonara Sami Brady: Alison Sweeney Leaves Days of Our Lives
Sami Brady is the character “Days of Our Lives” fans have loved to root for over the past two decades; a fiery brat at times who’s manipulated her way into the fans’ hearts and the hearts of many Salem fellows.
Alison Sweeney — who has spent 21 years in NBC daytime playing the popular character Sami Brady — will leave Days of Our Lives.
Sweeney announced her decision on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that will air today. ”I’m celebrating my 21st year … and I decided that it’s going to be my last year with the show,” she says. “I have worked so much, and my daughter just turned 5 and my son is 9, and I just want to be with them.”
The actress is expected to leave DOOL at the end of the season.
Sweeney first joined the soap in 1993 and took the fan award from the Daytime Emmys in 2002. She is the host on The Biggest Loser and has authored several books too.
Check out these excerpted facts from About.com about Sami Brady:
Originally born on October 16, 1984, Sami should be turning 29 in 2013. However, in 1993, the character’s birth year was changed to 1977, making her — yikes! — 7 years older.
Sami’s astrological sign is Libra. On the positive side, Sami is optimistic and social and knows how to charm others. On the negative side, she’s impatient, frivolous and indecisive; hence, seldom happy in marriage.
Her birth name is Samantha Gene Brady. She was named after her maternal aunt, Samantha Evans, and her mother’s longtime best friend, Eugene Bradford.
Upon returning to Salem in 1993, Sami was greeted by her dad, Roman, pointing a gun at her. She was lurking outside the Brady house, and he thought she was an intruder.
Sami’s first job was working as a candy striper at the hospital. The gig came in handy, considering her penchant for switching paternity test results.
