Ricky Gervais Takes On Giraffe Killer From Utah

Actor, writer and producer Ricky Gervais is a known animal rights activist. He published a publicly posted photo (from 2010) of a female hunter from Utah who was gleefully posing and taking a picture with a dead giraffe she had shot.

According to the New York Daily News, Ricky Gervais tweeted a picture of Rebecca Francis posing next to a dead giraffe saying, “What must’ve happened to you in your life to make you want to kill a beautiful animal & then lie next to it smiling?”

Rebecca Francis is described as a hunter and outdoorswoman who appeared on a TV competition called “Extreme Huntress” in 2010, and she hosted the show “Eye of the Hunter.”

Her posted bio reads:

Rebecca was introduced to hunting as a young child by her father and brother, and never looked back.  Her true passion lies in archery hunting.   She takes bowhunting very seriously and has a “do whatever it takes” attitude.  Because of that attitude she has conquered some of the most extreme challenges in hunting, including arrowing two alaskan brown bear at less than 24 yards, taking a 42 1/2 inch Dall ram in the Chugach mountain range, and being at full draw on a bull elephant as it charged only 10 yards from her.  Rebecca was the 2010 extreme huntress winner, and is currently a co-host of Eye of the Hunter TV airing on NBC Sports.  She is a freelance writer and has been featured in Muley Crazy, Deer & Wildlife Alliance, Mule Deer Foundation Magazine, Sportsman for Fish & Wildlife magazine, Women’s Outdoor News, Adventure Woman, Huntonly.com, and she is a regular contributor to bowhunting.net.  She is also on pro-staff for her favorite hunting clothing line, Prois Outdoor Apparel.  Rebecca loves fitness and has competed in marathons, half- marathons, triathlons, and endurance bike races, all of which help her stay in shape for hunting season.  Rebecca loves to share her passion for hunting with her kids and other women.  She hopes to help more women get out there and pursue their interest in the outdoors.

We just connected with Rebecca Francis and got a statement on her Giraffe hunt that anti-hunters are attacking her for. Rebecca said, “When I was in Africa five years ago I was of the mindset that I would never shoot a giraffe. I was approached toward the end of my hunt with a unique circumstance. They showed me this beautiful old bull giraffe that was wandering all alone. He had been kicked out of the herd by a younger and stronger bull. He was past his breeding years and very close to death. They asked me if I would preserve this giraffe by providing all the locals with food and other means of survival. He was inevitably going to die soon and he could either be wasted or utilized by the local people. I chose to honor his life by providing others with his uses and I do not regret it for one second. Once he was down there were people waiting to take his meat. They also took his tail to make jewelry, his bones to make other things, and did not waste a single part of him. I am grateful to be a part of something so good” REBECCA FRANCIS IS A HUNTER/CONSERVATIONIST and we stand behind her 100%!!
