Renowned stencil artist Logan Hicks will be featured at this year’s X-Games by painting two large scale projects.
Hicks will be painting the 6,300 sq ft “street course” providing an urban feel to the LA landscape.
In addition, he will also be painting a 20’ x 8’ mural celebrating the 15th anniversary of the X-Games, and will include X-Game notables Travis Pastrana, Shaun White, James Stewart, Ricky Carmichael, Jeremy McGrath, Kyle Loza, Danny Way, Bob Burnquist, Ryan Sheckler, Jake Brown, Daniel Dhers, Chad Kagy, Dave Mirra, Ken Block and Chad Reed.
The artist will start painting the street course on Tuesday and then take on the oversized mural the following week at the Home Depot Center.
The X-Games run July 30 – August 3 in Los Angeles.
Hicks is known for his meticulous, multi-layered stencils, capturing a person’s city dwelling sensory overload. His art captures urban inhabitants and juxtaposes them against the sprawling, stark grey environment they dwell in.
A son of Baltimore, Maryland, Hicks’ art has been shown in nearly 30 countries in cities as far away as Cape Town, South Africa and Shanghai, China. Hicks currently calls New York City home.
Even cutting edge Nike commercials staring Le Bron James have been graced by Hicks’ work. The artist also had his own apparel line in partnership with Japanese company Medicom, in addition to having his own Logan Hicks signature K-Swiss sneaker backed by a massive MTV ad campaign in Asia.
2009 has already been a breakthrough year for the artist who had his first-ever NY exhibit in May and will have his first-ever solo show in America to be held in Los Angeles this October. Currently he is also serving as curator of the traveling art gallery on the Green Day U.S. tour.
Hicks’ own portraits of band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool, and Mike Dirnt is on display throughout the tour.
