Rachel Weisz is in talks to join the cast of Disney’s prequel to the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz” called “Oz, the Great and Powerful.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Raimi is directing with Joe Roth producing.
David Lindsay-Abaire (“Rabbit Hole”) wrote the latest version of the script.
James Franco will star as a circus performer named Oz, who is transported through a tornado to the mysterious land of Oz, where he must fight real magic and three witches (Theodora, Glinda and Evanora) battling for control of the land.
Mila Kunis has already been cast as Theodora, the youngest sister of the three witches.
Weisz would play the evil witch Evanora, the oldest sister.
Shooting is expected to begin later in the summer with a 2013 release date in mind.
Weisz will be seen in Universal’s thriller “Dream House,” opposite Daniel Craig later this year. Note the date on this article may be incorrect due to importing it from our old system.
