Prep & Landing: Totally Tinsel Collection – Blu-ray Review

An army of elves has to prepare people’s houses so that Santa can keep on his worldwide schedule on Christmas Eve.  Wayne is one such elf and hoping to get a promotion but finds that maybe he’s found his niche at the North Pole.

“Prep & Landing”

On Christmas Eve, a high-tech team of elves from an elite unit known as Prep & Landing ensures homes around the world are prepared for Santa’s visit. Wayne (Dave Foley) is hoping to get a promotion but is told by command center coordinator Magee (Sarah Clarke) that his partner is getting the promotion and he has to train his over-excitable new partner Larry (Derek Richardson).

He goes to prep Timmy’s (Mason Vale Cotton) house for Santa’s (W. Morgan Sheppard) arrival but slacks off since he stinging over not getting the promotion.  A growing storm threatens to ruin Timmy’s Christmas unless Wayne gets out of his funk and get back to work.

“Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice”

The outrageous yuletide adventures of Christmas elves Lanny (Foley) and Wayne (Richardson), from the Prep & Landing special ops unit, continue in this totally tinsel adventure that reminds us there’s room for everyone on the ‘nice’ list.

The coal elf brigade is in charge of getting coal into the naughty children’s stockings, but when a wily naughty gets ahold of North Pole technology they hack into the system and threaten to ruin the holiday for everyone.  Lanny finds his away team joined by coal elf Noel (Rob Riggle), his younger brother, and their rivalry threatens to let “jinglesmell1337” pull off their plan.

Prep and Landing are two half-hour ABC Christmas specials that have the pleasant aroma of both Christmas cookies and Pixar.  Pixar’s John Lasseter produces both so the lineage is familiar.

The shows have a great sense of humor and are quality CGI animation products.  Sure to thrill kids of all ages, just like the bigger Pixar films.  They’re both fun holiday treats that feature great voice work from Foley and the rest of the cast.

Prep and Landings are presented in 1080p transfers (1.78:1).  Special features include the shorts Operation: Secret Santa (7 minutes) where Mrs. Clause (Betty White) sends Lanny and Wayne on a special mission, the 1 minute “Tiny’s Big Adventure (1 minute) where he has to get McGee some coffee, 5 minutes of Kringle Academy shorts (think commercials to interest Elves in joining up), 3 minutes of “North Pole News,” 7 minutes of “North Pole commercials” (like an Elf dating service!), 18 minutes of “Promotional Pieces” making of, and the 2 minute “Behind the Jingle: Grace Potter” about the singer writing a song for the show.  You also get a DVD copy.

Both holiday specials are not lumps of coal and are a great addition under the tree.  This set allows you to collect all the Prep and Landings (up to this point, I’d bet more show up at future Christmases) and get yourself into the holiday spirit.
