The Netherland's Queen Beatrix has been voted the country's favourite royal among expatriates

Beatrix topped the poll by the Dutch World service, while she rates second to Princess Máxima among Dutch people in a poll for Dutch TV programme EénVandaag.

With Queen's day tomorrow (30.04.08) marking the start of the Dutch holiday season, over half of the 24,000 people polled said they were proud of their country, and around half of respondents said they had a Dutch flag at home. Two thirds of those with flags said they would fly them on Queen's day.

The survey showed Princess Máxima to be the country's favourite royal, winning 27 per cent of the vote.

Queen Beatrix followed, with then Crown Prince Willem Alexander in third.

Another survey, by news agency ANP, found the Dutch are most proud of their common sense, then their tolerance, sense of humour, helpfulness and blunt approach.

But the poll also found the Dutch are not snappy dressers and say they do not understand cultural issues.
