Queen Elizabeth spending second day in hospital
Mar 4, 2013, 12:02 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth is spending a second day in hospital.
The 86-year-old monarch was admitted to London's King Edward VII Hospital yesterday (03.03.13), where she is being treated for gastroenteritis and despite being in 'good spirits', doctors want her to stay in as a 'precautionary measure'.
There are unlikely to be regular updates issued about her condition, but there is nothing to suggest she would not make a full recovery.
All of the queen's official engagements for this week, including the a trip to Rome, will be either cancelled or postponed.
The monarch - who celebrated her Diamond Jubilee last year - last received treatment 10 years ago, again at the King Edward VII Hospital, for a minor knee operation.
At the same time, surgeons removed minor, non-cancerous lesions from her face.
While the queen has been in good health over the past 10 years, her husband, Prince Philip, hasn't been so fortunate.
The 91-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was rushed to hospital last June as a 'precautionary measure' when he fell ill after spending hours on a ceremonial barge in rain and a cold wind as part of a flotilla of 1,000 vessels on the River Thames to mark her landmark Diamond Jubilee.
In December 2011 he also had a heart operation where surgeons cleared a blocked coronary artery and inserted a stent to ease the problem.
