Britain's Queen Elizabeth's wedding cake has gone up for auction.

A piece of the fruit cake consumed at the queen and Prince Philip's nuptials on November 201947 is on sale online at auction house PFC Auctions, alongside a letter from a young Lady Diana Spencer thanking two young girls for congratulating her upon her 1981 engagement to Prince Charles.

The tasty treat - which is 65 years old - is presented in its original Buckingham Palace case and comes with a note reading: 'With the best wishes of Their Royal Highnesses The Princess Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh.'

The impressive four-tiered cake was made by McVitie and Price and stood at an impressive nine feet and weighed 500 pounds.

It was dubbed the 10,000 mile wedding cake at the time due to the internationally-sourced ingredients, which were donated by Australian Girl Guides and flown over from South Africa.

Prince Philip cut the cake using his sword in front of the 2,000 guests at their Buckingham Palace reception.

The highest bid for the historical slice is £161 so far - compared to the £1,917 a piece of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's cake reached in May 2011. The auction closes tomorrow night (29.02.13) at 7pm.
