Zara Phillips has advised women to wear 'a great hat and comfy shoes' to horse races.

Queen Elizabeth's eldest granddaughter - who is an Olympic silver medal-winning equestrian herself - offered advice on how to look fashionable at events as she looked glamorous in a floral print dress and beige fascinator at the Magic Millions racing function in Gold Coast, Queensland in Australia this week.

Zara, who serves as ambassador for the organisation, which aims to boost the profile of women in the sport, said in her speech: 'My best tip for ladies going to the races would just be to wear a great hat and some comfy shoes.'

The 31-year-old royal - who is married to rugby player Mike Tindall - added that her link to the monarchy helped her secure funding in the sport.

She said: 'It's better for my sponsors that I am a royal because my name is more noticed than anyone else's.'

Zara recently revealed that she doesn't usually wear very much jewellery, except her engagement and wedding rings, preferring an understated look because the accessories could interfere with her work.

She explained: 'I've never worn so much bling before. Because I'm wearing gloves when I'm riding, I only wear my engagement and wedding ring. I only do it when I'm going out.'
