Diamond Jubilee among royals' top 2012 moments

Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee weekend and the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics are some of British royals' favourite moments of 2012.

A post on the official Clarence House Twitter account has revealed the royal family's top 10 highlights of the year, in no particular order, including a four-day celebration of the monarch's 60th year on the throne in June.

Clarence House stated: 'Members of the royal family were out in force to support the queen on the Diamond Jubilee weekend.

'The Prince of Wales gave a heartfelt speech to his mother the queen on stage at the Diamond Jubilee concert held on the Mall which was watched globally by millions of people.'

Other special moments to make the British royal family's 2012 highlights list included Prince William and Duchess Catherine announcing earlier this month they are expecting their first child together, which Clarence House described as 'some very special news to end the year'.

The London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics also brought a smile to the face of the royal family members. The same can be said for the nation, who particularly enjoyed the queen's humorous sketch alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig in a pre-recorded spoof which was played out at the Olympics opening ceremony.

Clarence House stated: 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry relished their roles as ambassadors for TeamGB and ParalympicsGB during London 2012 and attended as many events as they could.

'The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall also attended the opening ceremony with the rest of the royal family, and were just as surprised as everyone else to see Her Majesty the queen's now famous helicopter jump with James Bond!'

Other royal favourites of the year included Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, trying their hands at presenting the weather forecast during a visit to BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay centre in Glasgow in May, and the Dalai Lama's visit to Clarence House in June.
