Kathy Lette writing jokes for Prince Charles

Kathy Lette has been acting as a joke writer for Prince Charles.

The Australian author advised the heir to the British throne on a few gags before he visited her country in November as part of the monarchy's tour of the world for Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.

She told The Lady magazine: 'I gave him some of his lines.

'I went to a soirée at Clarence House and the Prince asked me for a few tips on what to say.

'I suggested, for example, that if he was jet-lagged, he should say, 'I'm a few sausages short of a barbie'. That kind of thing. I can't tell you all the lines, though, or I'd be sent to the Tower.'

Kathy - author of 'The Boy Who Fell to Earth', 'Nip 'n' Tuck' and 'The Llama Parlour' - also managed to make Queen Elizabeth laugh when she met her, as she wore a dress adorned with pictures of her favourite breed of dog, Corgi.

She added: 'The Queen threw back her head with laughter when she saw it.

'I probably went a bit far, though. I told her I was worried about wearing it because one of her own corgis might try and mate with my leg. At that point [Prince] Philip went, 'Right, let's move on.''

Meanwhile Prince Charles is set to meet flood victims in St. Asaph in Denbighshire, Wales, today (03.12.12). He will offer sympathy to local residents devastated by floods when the River Elwy burst flood defences last Tuesday (27.11.12). 180 homes have been affected and many residents have found themselves forced out of their houses just three weeks before Christmas.
