Britain's Prince Charles has failed to impress with his cricket skills in Australia.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visited Melbourne Cricket ground as part of their Diamond Jubilee tour to put their talents to the test, but one schoolgirl was left disappointed at Charles' attempt to bowl.

Bella Geitzmann, who was practising the sport during the royal visit, told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: 'Well he didn't bowl, he was just, like, threw it pretty far from the wicket.'

However, Australian international batsman David Hussey was easier to please, describing the prince as a 'very nice man, very welcoming and easy to speak to'.

Their trip to the stadium was followed by a visit to a historic winery Penfolds in South Australia's capital city Adelaide, where the couple enjoyed a glass of one of the rarest wines in the world, Coonawarra Cabernet Kalimna Shiraz.

Winemaker Peter Gago, who works at the vineyard known for its highly collectable and vintage wines, was delighted Charles and Camilla sampled the drink.

He said: 'They absolutely loved it. That wine has lovely maturation characters and it is half-a-century old. There were only ever 425 cases of it made.'

To top off an exciting day the pair were lucky enough to experience holding the country's signature animals Koala bears, with the prince being handed a wriggly bear called Kao and Camilla taking on the tamer, more cuddlier, Matilda.
