Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall at the Melbourne Cup in Australia
Britain's Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall took in the Melbourne Cup in Australia earlier today (05.11.12).
The royal couple - who are on a two-week Diamond Jubilee tour of Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand - watched shock winner Green Moon gallop to victory in the iconic horse race at Flemington Racecourse before Camilla presented the $175,000 golden trophy to Nick Williams, son of Lloyd Williams, owner of the equine.
Charles and Camilla - who arrived in Melbourne, Victoria, with Camilla at 10pm local time last night (05.11.12) - met some of the jockeys prior to the race and greeted racegoers as they made their way to the mounting yard.
One fan tried to start a chant of, 'Three cheers for the prince', but it didn't quite manage to get off the ground.
The prince - who had appeared to have got over his jet leg from earlier in the week when he described himself as a 'a few sausages short of a barbie' - was in fine form once again as he told one crowd member: 'You look fetching'.
Charles - dressed in a blue pin-striped suit - looked focused on the race as he watched through a pair of binoculars, with Camilla preferring to take in close-ups of the horses on the big screens dotted around the course.
The prince last took in the Melbourne Cup in Australia 27 years ago when he attended the race with his then-wife, the late Princess Diana.
Charles and Camilla are spending six days in Australia before they fly to Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday (10.11.12).
