Luxembourg celebrates royal wedding

Luxembourg's Prince Guillaume and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy were wed this weekend (19.10.12).

The weekend of nuptials began on Friday afternoon with a civil ceremony at the town hall in the capital, Luxembourg City, followed by a reception and gala dinner at the Grand Ducal Palace.

The celebrations continued on Saturday morning (20.10.12) with a religious service at the city's Notre Dame Cathedral.

Royal guests and dignitaries from all over the world flocked to the cathedral. Guests included Britain's Earl and Countess of Wessex, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, Princess Caroline of Monaco, Prince Frederick and Princess Mary of Denmark and Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Spain.

Princess Stephanie wore a stunning ivory lace dress with a 13ft train by designer Elie Saab, and the popular royal couple later appeared on the balcony at the Grand Ducal Palace and shared a kiss in front of the cheering crowds.

The festivities - which are estimated to have cost 500,000 euros - concluded on Saturday evening with a series of concerts and a firework display in the capital.

The couple have been dating since 2009 and became engaged in April.

The Belgian countess is now officially known as Princess Stephanie of Luxembourg.
