Prince Johan Friso of the Netherlands is in critical condition after being buried under an avalanche in Austria.
Johan was trapped under the snow for 15 minutes on Friday (17.02.12) while skiing off piste in the resort of Lech - where the Dutch royals traditionally take their winter break - and was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he has remained ever since.
Johan - who has two daughters, Luana, seven, and Zaria, six, with wife Princess Mabel - is said be in a stable but critical condition and doctors say they will know before the end of the week if he will survive.
The 43-year-old royal has been visited in hospital by his mother Queen Beatrix and Mabel.
Prosecutors say Johan's skiing companion - who has been identified by Dutch media as the director of the hotel where the royals are staying - has been questioned over the avalanche.
His companion - also a childhood friend - escaped injury thanks to an avalanche airbag - which inflates to keep skiers at the top of the snowfall.
A routine investigation has been opened, and may last several weeks.
