Britain's Prince Charles advocated new methods of teaching yesterday (08.02.12).

The first-in-line to the throne spoke at the Prince's Teaching Institute, and while praising educators for inspiring young people, he also warned against only looking at academia and away from character.

He said: 'One understands the essential importance of teaching for the whole person, teaching, educating, character as well as just the academic side.

'But it seems to me that one of the things that has been left out of the equation for so long is the element of character.'

The prince claims he has learned since setting up The Prince's Trust that it is important to look at a pupil's wider life rather than just their learning habits.

He added: 'One of the key issues we have to face is how to raise self esteem, self worth and self confidence.

'The point is, I believe we have to raise the level of esteem for many people before they can access the real value of education, whether academic or vocational, or both.'
