Duchess Catherine's portrait plans
Feb 9, 2012, 13:01 GMT

Duchess Catherine
Britain's Duchess Catherine has agreed to sit for her first formal painting.
The 30-year-old beauty - who broke tradition when she refused to sit for a portrait after marrying Prince William in April last year - has entered into discussions with the National Portrait Gallery, which has begun to look for an appropriate artist.
Gallery Director Sandy Nairne said: 'It's very early days, but we've started a discussion. It will be at least the summer before there's anything concrete and we can start to look for an artist.'
The duchess is a patron of the London art attraction, and made her first official solo engagement to the establishment last night (08.02.12).
Discussing the portrait further, Sandy said: 'Her support, and particularly a new portrait, will be wonderful in terms of helping us to reach out to a new audience, particularly younger people. We hope we can offer something of genuine interest to her in return.'
Catherine studied art history at St. Andrews University in Scotland, where she met Prince William.
