Britain's Prince William's football bid
May 24, 2010, 12:04 GMT
Britain's Prince William has offered himself as a World Cup host.
The prince - who is president of the Football Association - is supporting England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup and wants to stand with his brother Prince Harry and soccer star David Beckham as the "three lions" of the country's bid.
A St James's Palace official said: "He is now to take a more prominent role in the bid. He's a tremendous football fan and one who is lucky enough to be in a position to help England achieve something."
A royal aide added: "The prince is very much the hot sub of the 2018 movement."
The trio will be at next month's FA reception in South Africa for FIFA officials where they will try to salvage England's reputation following the scandal which saw the then FA chairman Lord Triesman claim that Russia and Spain would try to bribe their way to success.
The revelations are believed to have harmed England's cause, but officials are confident that they have begun the process of smoothing away the fallout.
