Earl Spencer's wedding mystery
May 14, 2010, 12:03 GMT
Britain's Earl Spencer was unaware of the importance of his sister Princess Diana's wedding.
The 45-year-old Earl revealed that the marriage of Diana and Charles in 1981 largely passed him by because he was too young to realise its impact.
He told etonline.com: "I remember sort of going home at the end of the day and thinking, 'Well, that's that,' and not realising what a global phenomenon both the day had been and that Diana had become.
"I was a 16-year-old boy at the time, and I really hadn't a clue what was going on at this point in my direction; I was just there for my sister's wedding."
He also claimed his sister - who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997 - became a "fairytale princess" on her wedding day.
He said: "The first moment of the day I remember was going to see Diana as she was getting ready in her wedding dress. Before that she was just, sort of, my big sister.
"But then when I walked in I have to say they had transformed her into a very beautiful woman. She did become that day a sort of fairytale princess. It was like she was handed over to the world that day."
