Queen Elizabeth's letter on display
May 13, 2010, 13:19 GMT
A letter from Britain's Queen Elizabeth I is to go on display.
The letter, which will be part of a collection of 400 year old hidden artefacts, is to go on display in Lambeth Palace, London, to celebrate its 400 year anniversary next week.
Giles Mandelbrote, the palace's librarian, told The Guardian newspaper: "This is an experiment for us as we have not had a big public exhibition before. We're slightly off the tourist beaten track, although we are not so far from Westminster, so we hope people will come."
The letter written by Elizabeth I, which was penned on 22 October 1572, will be available for public viewing alongside a copy of the warrant for the execution of Mary Queen of Scots in 1587.
There will also be 6000 books and manuscripts to examine, as well as the shell of Archbishop Laud's pet tortoise, which froze to death when its hibernation was disturbed by a careless workman.
Tickets are now available for the exhibition which will open on May 17.
